Shahan assumes command of Joint Staff Support Center

Air Force Col Douglas S. Shahan assumed command of the Defense Information System Agency’s Joint Staff Support Center (JSSC) from outgoing commander Army COL Stephen M. Murphy at a change of command ceremony held in the Pentagon Conference Center July 7.

DISA Director Army LTG Alan R. Lynn presided over the ceremony, which was attended by a number of distinguished guests, family members, friends, and colleagues.

Shahan is JSSC’s 14th commander and a recent graduate of the National Defense University.

As commander, Shahan will lead JSSC’s diverse mission of providing command, control, communications, computer, and intelligence (C4I) systems, information assurance, multimedia and visual information, continuity of operations, and communications watch support to the National Military Command Center, the Joint Staff, and other senior DOD warfighters worldwide.

He looks forward to the challenges and opportunities in fulfilling his commitment to JSSC’s evolving mission.

“The command and control capabilities you provide are vital to national leadership decision-making that impacts operations across the entire globe,” he said. “It’s my honor to join your ranks as we continue your vital mission for the nation with pride, professionalism, and passion.”

Lynn presented the outgoing commander with the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his accomplishments.

“COL Murphy and the soldiers, sailors, airman, Marines, and civilians have really accomplished miracles over the past year,” said Lynn. “You have led and developed an exceptional and professional mission-focused team that has achieved great things. I could not be more proud of JSSC.”
