White House Communications Agency conducts recruiting event in Hawaii

Members of the White House Communications Agency (WHCA) traveled to Hawaii July 22-29, to recruit military personnel for key positions within the agency.

Throughout the week-long trip, the team held recruiting events at several locations in Wahiawa and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

“[WHCA] is a one-of-a-kind military unit dedicated to providing premier, worldwide, vital information services and communications support to the president and his staff,” said Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Director of DISA Air Force CMSgt Andrea Gates, who accompanied the recruiting team to Hawaii.

WHCA is currently seeking military personnel with specialties in communications, audio-visual, administration, and support, who are able to travel extensively and perform their duties autonomously.

Gates described some of the key attributes potential candidates should possess in order to be a successful as a member of the WHCA team.

“[Candidates] should be self-motivated and seek to grow both professionally and personally,” she said.  They should also be able to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be a team player.”

Gates explained she believes the enthusiasm and excitement of the recruiting team will ultimately help WHCA achieve their recruiting goals.

“You could see it in their energy how much they wanted potential candidates to feel [how they felt] about this unique assignment and what it means to be a leader qualified to work in direct support of the president of the United States.”

WHCA offers unique technical training, hands-on experiences, and opportunities for travel. Personnel assigned to WHCA receive civilian clothing allowances; earn special duty assignment pay; earn the Presidential Service Badge; and are given the opportunity to participate in degree completion programs.

Personnel must be able to obtain a top-secret security clearance, have no history of derogatory information, and be able to serve in a presidential support billet.

WHCA will host their next recruiting event at Fort Carson and Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, Sept. 24-29.
