Army Lt. Gen. Paul T. Stanton, Defense Information Systems Agency director and Joint Force Headquarters – Department of Defense Information Network commander, met with Army Lt. Gen. Jeth B. Rey, deputy chief of staff, G-6, to discuss closer collaboration on cyber operations and network defense.
The meeting focused on aligning the Army's network modernization efforts with DISA's existing capabilities to enhance joint interoperability and integration. Stanton emphasized the importance of their shared understanding.
“Let's make sure that we have the right sight picture so that we can collaboratively design a way forward that we agree with,” Stanton stated.
Rey highlighted the potential for cost savings and improved joint operations through greater integration with DISA platforms. He stressed the importance of moving beyond interoperability to a more integrated joint environment, particularly with international partners. “The joint environment needs to be more integrated than interoperable,” Rey stated, emphasizing the value of such meetings in achieving this goal.
Stanton praised the extensive preparatory work done by the staff ahead of the meeting, highlighting the numerous interagency progress reviews and smaller group forums that paved the way for productive discussions. He commended the efficient process of resolving challenges at lower levels, allowing the three-star forum to focus on strategic decisions.
The teamwork underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and integration across the Department of Defense in the face of evolving cyber threats.
