On May 13, the Defense Information Systems Agency awarded World Wide Technology an Other Transaction Agreement for the Fangorn prototype.

Fangorn is poised to be a first-of-its-kind cloud platform engineered to modernize legacy mainframe systems for U.S. Warfighters — increasing efficiency, scalability and security. The new platform offers a low-risk modernization solution, integrating AI-based data management and analytics capabilities and saving the Defense Department from maintaining legacy applications using codebases like COBOL.

“Fangorn represents a paradigm shift in mainframe management. By combining the strengths of the mainframe with the agility of the cloud and the power of AI, Fangorn delivers a truly innovative platform that drives unprecedented levels of performance, scalability and efficiency,” says Justin Sollenberger, DISA J-9 Mainframe Line of Business division chief.

Fangorn will enhance efficiency for DISA's customers by streamlining the management of separate mainframe systems and allow traditional mainframe applications to modernize at their own pace, offering a direct pathway for application owners to meet their strategic goals for cloud readiness.

DISA J-9’s Mainframe Line of Business is currently partnering with customers to provide mission-essential solutions. If you know of an organization that may be interested in Fangorn, email the DISA J-9 Mainframe Computer Operations Team at disa.meade.hacc.list.compute-ops-hc31-mainframe-contact-us@mail.mil.
