Employment Opportunities

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

DISA offers a variety of employment opportunities for persons with physical disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, and intellectual disabilities.

Workforce Recruitment Program

The Workforce Recruitment Program is a free government-wide recruitment and referral program managed by the DOD and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The WRP offers participating employers access to the largest pool of candidates who are eligible to be hired noncompetitively into temporary term, or permanent positions via the Schedule A appointing authority.

Eligible students and recent graduates interested in participating in the WRP must reapply each year to participate in the program.

Schedule A

Schedule A refers to a special hiring authority that gives federal agencies an optional, and potentially quicker, way to hire individuals with disabilities. Applying under Schedule A offers an exception to the traditional competitive hiring process. You can apply for jobs using Schedule A, if you are a person with an intellectual disability, a severe physical disability, or a psychiatric disability.

Eligibility

Applicant must have a severe physical disability, a psychiatric disability or an intellectual disability. To prove eligibility to be appointed to a federal job under Schedule A, you must:

  • Be qualified for the position (i.e., have the necessary competencies and relevant experience to perform the job).
  • Provide "proof of a disability" documentation – a letter stating that you have an intellectual disability, severe physical disability or psychiatric disability.
    • A doctor, licensed medical professional, licensed vocational rehabilitation specialist, or any federal, state, or local agency that issues or provides disability benefits may write the letter. Many doctors and most of the entities listed above know how to format a Schedule A letter.
