DISA Europe’s Command Support Team was honored with an award for their extraordinary personnel, manpower, fiscal, security, and training support.

Defense Information Systems Agency employees around the world gathered in-person and virtually March 31 to recognize outstanding achievements by military and civilian individuals and teams during the 2015 calendar year.

Using Global Video Services, the video-teleconferencing solution offered by the agency as a DOD enterprise service, employees came together for the agency’s annual awards ceremony.

Army LTG Alan R. Lynn, the agency’s director, led the presentation of 45 awards, which recognized accomplishments spanning a range of disciplines, such as:

  • Strengthening DOD’s cybersecurity posture through testing and implementation of the Joint Regional Security Stacks.
  • Consolidating contracts and revising acquisition processes in order to pass savings on to the agency’s mission partners.

  • Facilitating the agency’s large-scale internal reorganization in early 2015.

  • Providing expanded communications infrastructure and support to the Executive Office of the President, National Security Council, and U.S. Secret Service.

  • Implementing countermeasures against threats to the Department of Defense Information Network.

  • Mentoring colleagues within the agency.

  • Developing new techniques for assessing electromagnetic spectrum interference in mobile environments.

  • Strategic and collaborative program and budget planning to achieve established goals despite budget reductions.

A new award for operational excellence, named after Larry K. Huffman, director of the Center for Operations, was unveiled during the ceremony.

Huffman, who will retire later this month, is the longest-serving director of operations in DISA’s 57 year history, and is credited with leading more than 100 named operations during his tenure.

Lynn, the commanding officer to more than 1,300 military personnel assigned to DISA, also recognized individuals at a variety of ranks, including junior enlisted person of the year, noncommissioned officer of the year, senior noncommissioned officer of the year, and company grade officer of the year.

“At DISA the military is small in number [relative to the size of the civilian workforce] but mighty in contribution,” said Senior Enlisted Advisor Air Force CCM Andrea Gates.

Lynn thanked all of the agency’s employees for their efforts in support of warfighters and national-level leaders, and also extended his gratitude to the family members who support them.

“I appreciate all that you’ve done for DISA and all that you’ve done for the nation,” he said.
