In the United States and other countries, June marks Pride Month, dedicated to celebrating and honoring the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, all sexual and gender minority community.

This June, a group of Defense Information Systems Agency Joint Service Provider employees volunteered in Washington, D.C.’s 2022 Pride Parade and Festival.

Pride Month is meaningful to me because it’s an acknowledgement and celebration for the LGBTQ community,” said Jazmin Lynn, Administration and Strategic Communications. “It’s a special occasion for everyone to join together, live in their truth and be free to express their way of love and lifestyle. It’s important to me because in a world that’s so divided, this community exemplifies unity.”

During the parade, volunteers from DISA Joint Service Provider unboxed t-shirts, signed people in, and made sure everyone had what they needed to set up workstations. Individuals across the organization volunteered for various reasons, all striving to make a welcoming environment for everyone.

I chose to volunteer for this event because I wanted to become more involved in my community and what goes on in the world,” said Lynn. “I had plenty of excuses on why I shouldn’t go but, ultimately, I wanted to push myself to be better and a part of something greater. I really enjoyed my first-time experience and would recommend everyone to be a witness. There was so much love everywhere, I made a little family.”

At its core, DISA Joint Service Provider puts its people first to enable every mission. The organization promotes a culture of inclusivity and strives for an environment that is free of discrimination and hatred and is committed to creating a culture and community focused on inclusivity that supports and inspires all people.

Lynn said the biggest takeaway was “staying true to myself and enjoying life. Helping and giving back to others is the most rewarding to me.”
