DISA Global leads Washington University cybersecurity roundtable discussion

Jessie Showers III, Cybersecurity Branch chief, Defense Information Systems Agency Global Field Command, led a roundtable discussion on June 16 - “Identifying new technology (not just IT) that affects cybersecurity.”

The discussion is part of a series created by Washington University and the Security Advisory Alliance for cybersecurity professionals and leaders in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Topics are based on input from participants, corporate partners, current challenges and trends within the cybersecurity field. Participants include AT&T, TRANSCOM, MasterCard, RGA, Boeing, Deloitte and Centene.

Showers III discussed challenges of new technology and how even non-IT assets can affect an organization’s cybersecurity posture. The group also discussed recent technologies that organizations had challenges evaluating and/or are looking at, such as Fitbits, Bring Your Own Device Program(s), Quantum Computing, Software Defined Networking, 5G Network Adoption and IPv6.

Participants said the discussion was well received and they were appreciative of DISA Global for leading the roundtable discussion.

“You get ideas from the way people address their security challenges, which is how you learn. That’s why we participate,” said Jennifer Morovitz, AT&T assistant vice president.
