THE DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT (DMCA)

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is a U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Combat Support Agency and provides information accessible through the internet at large and within the Department of Defense Information Network.  This is one of its missions assigned through U.S. law and DOD Regulations.  The information accessible through DISA includes both material that is and is not protected by copyright law. It is the policy of DISA and the DOD to respect the intellectual property of others and to respond to effective notices of alleged infringement of copyrighted material. This page does not create any right, remedy, or cause of action for any person against DISA or the DOD, nor does it constitute any waiver of sovereign immunity.  The appointment of an Agent to receive complaints of copyright violation is in keeping with DISA and DOD policy to respect copyrights, but is not an admission that DISA or the DOD is liable for any damages under the procedures of the DMCA.

Please note, DISA does not review, manage, or otherwise control content creation by the entities utilizing our internet services.  We provide content delivery services and internet access to accomplish the missions of the Department of Defense and provide internet content to DOD end users’ browsers. Requesting DISA to take down content from caches will not permanently resolve copyright protected content from being delivered from the content poster’s origin. For permanent resolution, you must make your complaint known to the content poster’s agency directly. If you have a takedown notice concerning content posted on a site belonging to a Department of Defense Component, Department or Agency, you should notify that Component, Department, or Agency.

DISA DMCA Process:

DISA has registered a designated agent with the Copyright Office pursuant to 17 U.S.C. 512(c). The Copyright Agent should only be contacted with respect to make a complaint of copyright-infringement. The Copyright Agent will not respond to general inquiries, nor will he advise whether a posting constitutes a copyright violation. If you believe your copyrighted content is being used by DISA or is otherwise available from DISA servers without permission, you may notify the designated copyright agent at:
