Q: Who do I call for help with my DISN IDNX-20,70, or 90?
A: For problems related to a "non-active circuit" call DISN Implementations at DSN: 770-9066, Cmcl: (618) 220-9066. For all other problems call The DISN CONUS Call Center toll free at 1-800-554-DISN (3476).
Q: What does IDNX stand for?

Q: Who do I call for information on IDNX issues such as node and equipment ownership, removal, relocation installation, environment, funding, etc..?
A: DISA owns and manages the DISN and is the focal point for these issues. Contact the Global NetOps Support Center (GNSC) Staff at DSN: 770-8626, Cmcl: (618) 220-8626.
Q: What is the process for requesting downtime for DISN circuits and/or equipment at my location?
A: The Global NetOps Support Center (GNSC) has a staff who coordinate authorized service interruptions (ASIs). DISA Circular 310-70-1, Chapter 7 is the "bible" for requesting downtime.

FAQ - DSU AND MODEMS
Q: How do I tell if my 3500 DSU is strapped for V.35 or RS-232 without taking it apart?
A: Using the DSU front panel, access the Status menu, go to the Port Status sub-menu. there under V.35/EIA 232 Port Rate it will state what the DSU is currently strapped for. See your DSU manual for further details, or give us a call.
Q: What do the LED's indicate?
A: T/R stands for Transmit Data/Receive Data. If the LED is green this indicates the DSU is accepting data to be transmitted from the attached DTE device. At the DISN node location the DTE device is normally the assigned Node Card Port on the node. At the user location the DTE device is normally the user terminal. If the LED is Red the DSU is passing data received from the remote DSU (DSU that is at the other end of your four wire connection). If the LED is orange the DSU is simultaneously transmitting and receiving. If the LED is not light there is no data being passed, or the LED is not working.
NC stands for Network Control and is Green if attached to a network management system. DISN does not monitor DSU so NC will normally be set to off.
ST stands for Status. LED is green (steady) if the power is on and there are no alarms. Green (Flashing) indicates Test Mode. LED is red if bit errors are detected. See your DSU manual for further details, or give us a call.
Q: What does signal quality (SQ) found on some modems, and signal level (SL) found on some DSU's indicate?
A: This level indicates the strength of the receive level. It is not a decibel level. To see the decibel level of a most modems go to the Status menu, then the CQMS Status Sub-menu, under Rx Level you will find the decibel level. Most DSU's do not have this option. We recommend that the SQ/SL should be above 6 for circuits below 56.0 KBps, however we have seen them work satisfactorily as low as 4. For circuits 56.0 KBps and above we recommend a 7, but again we have seen them work satisfactorily as low as 5. The best way to measure the quality is to run a Bit Error Rate Test (BERT). Some DSU's and Modems can generate their own BERT's. If you don't have BERT equipment we can map your circuit to our node for testing. For assistance with BERT's give us a call.

FAQ - ACTIVE CIRCUITS
Q: What does active mean?
A: What we mean by active is that the circuit has been reported to our office as accepted for service by the user, program manager, or node site coordinator.
Q: What do I do if the person I normally deal with is not there?
A: There are 8 implementers assigned to the facility. Each person is assigned specific circuits to work. However, all implementers have access to a shared database, and can pick up where the other implementer left off if he/she is not available. The "common" phone number is DSN: 770-9066, Cmcl: (618) 220-9066.
Q: Why do I need to call the DISN Implementations shop when my circuits become active?
A: If your circuit fails, the Global NetOps Support Center (GNSC) will only work outages for circuits identified as "Active" in our database. So, if your DISN circuit goes down after duty hours or on the weekend, they won't work the outage unless it has been reported to us as Active.
